I made it to see A yesterday! The drive was brutal and I actually spun the car on a crowded freeway (misjudged some black ice and my brakes). A's out of the hospital, of course, but I spent the better part of the last week in mortal fear. I wouldn't have even attempted such an arduous, dangerous drive (a longer route with more mountains, but my first-choice route is closed) if it weren't for how eager I was to see her.

And it's good to see her and feel like she's OK.

Last night, A was admitted to the hospital after nearly dying. I was trying to coordinate assistance for her from 700 miles away as she stubbornly resisted help. I don't recall ever being so afraid for another person's life, while also trying to manage getting help to watch her kids and get transport to the hospital from a nasty cab-driver while A wouldn't call an ambulance. As the sun rose, I had precious little sleep and nothing but worries.
